FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE All are invited on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 3:00pm to the Plantation United Methodist Church, located at 1001 NW 70th Avenue, Plantation, where the Plantation Interfaith Multicultural Committee will be hosting their 23rd Annual celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) legacy of peace, with a tribute of songs, dances and spoken words. We are proud to have as our special guest and Keynote Speaker Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, President and CEO of the Urban League of Broward County; and to present our 2018 winners of the Elementary Schools’ MLK Essay Competition. The Plantation Interfaith Multicultural Committee Are volunteers who are members of area churches and synagogue surrounding Plantation United Methodist Church (PUMC). The founding members of the group were from Plantation Episcopal, St. George Catholic, St. Gregory Catholic, Merrill United Methodist, First Baptist of Plantation, Temple Kol Ami, Plantation Presbyterian and PUMC. Dr. Smith-Baugh Is credited with several achievements within the community including one of the most significant accomplishments in the Urban League’s history; the launching of a $9 million dollar Community Empowerment Center. The center expanded the programs and services offered by the Urban League and further advanced its mission of assisting African Americans to achieve social and economic equality. Dr. Baugh is active on many boards and provides insight in a myriad of issues across the state and nation.
